The Blue Barn
The Blue Barn in Otley has embraced a cleaner, more sustainable future with the installation of a 36.40 kWp solar photovoltaic system. This project was designed to significantly reduce the site's reliance on grid electricity while supporting its commitment to environmental responsibility.
The system features Esdec FlatFix Fusion mounting, a modular and lightweight solution ideal for flat roof applications. This ensures optimal panel orientation and long-term durability, even in challenging weather conditions. To maximise energy harvest and system efficiency, SolarEdge inverters and optimisers were used. These allow for panel-level monitoring and performance optimisation, particularly useful in scenarios where shading or variable sunlight might affect output.
An integrated SolarEdge energy meter provides real-time data on both solar generation and on-site electricity consumption. This enables the team at The Blue Barn to analyse how the solar PV system is contributing to their energy usage and make informed decisions about future energy management strategies.
The installation is expected to generate approximately 32.94 MWh of clean electricity annually. Based on current consumption patterns, this should cover around 40% of the site's total electricity requirements. In addition to reducing energy bills, the system will help cut carbon emissions, contributing to a greener local environment.
This project showcases how modern solar technology can be seamlessly integrated into commercial operations, delivering both environmental and financial benefits. The Blue Barn now stands as a strong example of how businesses in Otley and beyond can take meaningful steps toward energy independence and sustainability.
