Residential Care Home

Associated Clean Technologies were approached by the main contractor responsible for the full renovation of a Residential Care Home, who required a reliable and efficient Solar PV system to form part of the upgrade works.

With care homes operating around the clock and consuming large amounts of electricity for lighting and essential equipment, a renewable energy solution was an ideal way to reduce ongoing costs and support long‑term sustainability.

For this project, safety was paramount. Because of the sensitive nature of the setting, we designed the system using SolarEdge technology, ensuring enhanced fire safety, panel‑level monitoring, and optimised performance. This gave the care home the most secure and capable system available while also maximising its generation potential.

In December 2023, our team installed 57 solar panels, providing a total system capacity of 23.37 kWp. The installation was carefully engineered to make full use of an allowed roof area. To achieve this, we created a layout with a 50% overlap between panels, an innovative approach that allowed us to expand the system’s size without compromising structural integrity or safety. This design enabled us to capture more solar energy than a standard layout would have allowed, significantly boosting the home’s long‑term renewable generation.

The system was expected to produce 21.43 MWh of usable energy each year. It has quickly exceeded performance projections, generating 22.4 MWh in 2024 and an impressive 26.05 MWh in 2025. This strong performance has helped the care home offset a meaningful portion of its electricity bill, which is especially beneficial given its constant energy usage.

Today, the Solar PV system continues to provide reliable, clean power that reduces operational costs and contributes to the home’s environmental goals. With SolarEdge optimisation and a design tailored to maximise roof potential, the care home now benefits from a system that delivers high energy output, enhanced safety, and long‑term resilience, supporting both its residents and its sustainability objectives.
